Avoiding
Becoming the Next To Be Cyber Attack
On July 30, hackers breached HBO’s (Home Box Office) servers which is an American premium cable and
satellite television network that is owned by Time Warner through its
respective flagship company Home Box Office, Inc. and demanded nearly $6
million in ransom to stop the leak of over 1.5 terabytes of stolen data. Hacked
files included details on HBO’s internal network and administrator passwords,
draft scripts from five Game of Thrones episodes and over 30,000 emails from
its vice president of film. Just one week later, a different hacker group from India
leaked full episodes of Game of Thrones by working through insiders at Star
India, a regional HBO carrier.
Shortly
after the Star India incident, hacker group OurMine took over HBO’s Twitter
account in a very public display of credential theft. Security experts suspect
OurMine used spearphishing methods to obtain access to the HBO account. As more
and more companies move to a digital business environment, a clear need for
workforce information security training and awareness has emerged.
Security
awareness training platform proactively fights cyber attacks by training all
levels of employees on cyber security. We’ve found that 29 percent of employees
across industries fall victim to phishing, making hacks like the HBO incident
easy for cyber criminals. By educating the workforce on cyber threats, they can
be mobilized as the last line of defense against cyber attacks. Just recently
the NHS (National Health Service), the National Health Service (NHS) is the
publicly funded national healthcare system in the United Kingdom. The
organization, funded primarily by taxation, provides free or low-cost
healthcare to all legal residents of the U.K. Medications are subsidized as
well and prescriptions may be free when situations warrant was badly affected
by the Ransonware cyber attack, so it is expedient to take the following
precautious measures below to avert such damages
2 ways you can avoid becoming the to be Attacked:
1. Start Preparing Now
for Security Training
Most CTOs (Chief Technical Officer) and CIOs (Chief Information Officer)
understand the need for workforce security training, but often have difficulty
getting executive buy in, setting budget and implementing organization-wide
security policies. There is a need to help build business cases for training,
provide budgeting guidance and formulate a training plan for the widely varying
needs of your company.
2. Transform Your
Culture: Creating a Culture of Security Awareness
Most cultural shifts in business occur due to external pressures such as
changing workforce demographics, safety concerns and health issues. With
security breaches in the news nearly every day, a culture of security awareness
must be adopted by organizations of all types. With creating the security
awareness culture, this will help the shift in priorities and transform culture
by providing effective training with measurable results.
